We got to put up the trellises for the shack in the back, continued filling gravel, and got most of the box beaming done for the twin home. It is quick and satisfying to get the trellises up! But the detail and finish work takes quite a while for sure. I got to go to my first Youth Garden Project's Weed 'n Feed event! It felt great to meet such wonderful people, be in the dirt, get free veggie starts (we will see if they re-root!), and a delicious meal from none other than Cory and Solona with CR. I even got to meet some ex-CR interns and someone who started volunteering with us. This is also the week we scored twice from dumpster diving big time! First, we got almost two dozen bunches of bananas, and then we got over half a dozen bags of potatoes. We even got more food gifts from Lena's family and over the weekend, someone from the nonprofit called Splore drove by one evening and gave us enough fixings for burritos and nachos as well as some pie! I also was gifted money from family and got a refund from my past job.
The weekend was a long-awaited for as we had a three-day weekend for the eclipse. I stayed with the "home" group. We were first visited by a rather large handful of long distance hiking people, many friends of Mia's, as well as one of the most adorable dog, Basil. This definitely sparked many interests in doing the PCT at some point. It was very much a needed vacation at home. Also being given so many refunds and gifts just the day before the weekend, I was able to enjoy a shopping trip with Lena at the nursery and thrift store! Although I did not find new shoes, I got a carafe for extra coffee and the stomp party, as well as a fantastic skirt. From the nursery, we came home with a pear, an echinacea, strawberry, lavender, four kale plants, rhubarb, and hibiscus. Another one of Mia's guests, Stella, got us started on using the cob oven and we had a delicious pizza feast! On the day of the eclipse, we went to pretty much our back yard, Sand Flats area and Slickrock, and although we were at only 80%, it was incredible to feel the sun's weaken rays, see a slight darkening on the landscape, and watch as a Cheshire cat smile loomed in place of the sun for a good while. It was cool to see the curve of the moon's path, and we had a great time with the home team! I always enjoy an opportunity to climb big boulders and carry nourishment for myself and others! I am so grateful for how these weeks are going.
